Kinesiology and the Ancient Connection

Ma Wang Dui Daoyin Exercises and the 12 Meridians

Kinesiology comes from the Greek root word kinesis.  It means ‘the study of movement’.  The term is also used by contemporary practitioners to describe various forms of educational and wellness-maintenance tools that use muscle response testing (biofeedback) to help identify “imbalances” in the mind-body system, and thereby attempts to restore balance and wellness through various means of intervention such as movements and reflex stimulation.

The ancient Chinese people have long used movements to maintain health and have created exercises that combine body movement and breathing, namely Daoyin, meaning guiding and drawing.  The so-called called Daoyin is also known as  “Daoyinxingqi”(i.e. guiding and drawing and moving energy) or “Xingqi”(i.e. moving energy).   It has two important parts: “guiding the breath/qi to create harmony” and “guiding the body to create flexibility”.  Daoyin exercises are the early forms of what we now call qigong.

In this one-hour presentation, Amy Choi will share with you a set of 12 Daoyin exercises based on a colour silk scroll painting unearthed in 1973 in Changsha, Hunan Province, China, from the Ma Wang Dui tomb of the Han Dynasty (206 BC – 220 AD).  This silk scroll depicts what people China did about 2,000 years ago in their effort to heal disease and restore health. Developed by contemporary experts from the Chinese Health Qigong Association in China, this set of exercises can be done as a daily routine within 20 minutes.

Amy will also play with these exercises and will help you notice the before-and-after by guiding your way through your 14 muscles, Touch for Health style.

At the end of the presentation, Amy will talk about her course ‘To Live A Flowing Life – Ma Wang Dui Qigong Metaphor Balances’ under Ming’s Mirror Kinesiology.  Amy is looking for interested parties who would like to sponsor or co-sponsor the course.  Amy’s contact: info@brainbodycentre.com.
