This one-hour introductory talk with Dra. Katha Jones provides an overview of the Four-Quadrant Model of Social and Emotional Intelligence, setting the foundation for the deeper exploration in a 3-hour workshop scheduled for 28 April, “Courageous Leadership During Uncertain Times: How Emotional Intelligence Boosts Mental & Emotional Resilience.”

The Four-Quadrant Model of social and emotional intelligence, developed by Daniel Goleman and others, functions as a framework to assess and improve your emotional intelligence (EQ) by balancing internal (self) and external (others) awareness with action. It helps individuals understand their own intrinsic emotions and manage personal and professional relationships with increased emotional self-awareness, empathy, compassion, mental agility and personal power.

This model is divided into ‘personal competencies’ such as emotional self-awareness, self-management and personal power and ‘social competencies’ which determine how we handle relationships during times of stress and limited resources. The latter strongly influence our communication and leadership styles and interactions with the people we work with or are responsible for. Research consistently shows that organizations that prioritize communication, empathy, active listening, emotional intelligence and conscious leadership experience stronger collaboration, lower staff turnover, and greater mental and emotional resilience. ‘Soft skills’ are now the human edge and most durable competitive advantage needed in a constantly changing, uncertain and volatile business world.

Emotional Intelligence is our ability to recognize, understand, manage and effectively express one’s emotions in our personal and professional relationships. It is the capacity to effectively interact with others by understanding and managing their emotions. EI plays a significant role in our personal and professional relationships, decision-making process, and overall mental and emotional well-being.

This promises to be a highly informative and engaging session, offering practical insights into emotional intelligence, leadership and more – please join us!
